The start of Nigeria

Nigeria first became a republic in 1963, but succumbed to military rule three years later after a bloody coup d'état. A separatist movement later formed the Republic of Biafrain 1967, leading to the three-year Nigerian Civil War. Nigeria became a republic once again after a new constitution was written in 1979. However, the republic was short-lived, when the military seized power again four years later. A new republic was planned to established in 1993, but was dissolved by General Sani Abacha. Abacha died in 1998 and a fourth republic was later established the following year, which ended three decades of intermittent military rule.

Multiple sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating disease in which the insulating covers of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are damaged. This damage disrupts the ability of parts of the nervous system to communicate, resulting in a range of signsand symptoms, including physical, mental, and sometimes psychiatric problems.Specific symptoms can include double vision, blindness in one eye, muscle weakness, trouble with sensation, or trouble with coordination. MS takes several forms, with new symptoms either occurring in isolated attacks (relapsing forms) or building up over time (progressive forms). Between attacks, symptoms may disappear completely; however, permanent neurological problems often remain, especially as the disease advances.

SynonymsDisseminated sclerosis, encephalomyelitis disseminata

SpecialtyNeurology
SymptomsDouble vision, blindness in one eye, muscle weakness, trouble with sensation, trouble with coordination
Usual onsetAge 20–50
DurationLong term
CausesUnknown[
Diagnostic methodBased on symptoms and medical tests[
TreatmentMedications, physical therapy
Prognosis5–10 year shorter life expectancy[5]
Frequency2 million (2015)
Deaths18,900 (2015)
While the cause is not clear, the underlying mechanism is thought to be either destruction by the immune system or failure of the myelin-producing cells. Proposed causes for this include genetics and environmental factors such as being triggered by a viral infection.MS is usually diagnosed based on the presenting signs and symptoms and the results of supporting medical tests.
There is no known cure for multiple sclerosis.Treatments attempt to improve function after an attack and prevent new attacks. Medications used to treat MS, while modestly effective, can have side effects and be poorly tolerated.Physical therapy can help with people's ability to function. Many people pursue alternative treatments, despite a lack of evidence of benefit. The long-term outcome is difficult to predict, with good outcomes more often seen in women, those who develop the disease early in life, those with a relapsing course, and those who initially experienced few attacks.Life expectancy is on average 5 to 10 years lower than that of an unaffected population.
Multiple sclerosis is the most common immune-mediated disorder affecting the central nervous system. In 2015, about 2.3 million people were affected globally with rates varying widely in different regions and among different populations. That year about 18,900 people died from MS, up from 12,000 in 1990.The disease usually begins between the ages of 20 and 50 and is twice as common in women as in men. MS was first described in 1868 by Jean-Martin Charcot. The name multiple sclerosis refers to the numerous scars (sclerae—better known as plaques or lesions) that develop on the white matter of the brain and spinal cord. A number of new treatments and diagnostic methods are under development

Importance of water leaf

The Healing Powers of Waterleaf, Popularly called " Efo Gbure " in Yoruba dialect in the South Western Nigeria.

Waterleaf, (Talinum triangulare), is one of those underrated and  undervalued plants in
Nigeria. Some even regard waterleaf as a
nuisance, a stubborn weed that grows all year,
though it flourishes  more during the rainy season.

In many scientific studies and trials, water leaf showed that it can inhibit
proliferation of cancer cells and shrink tumours. Other studies have been focused on its cerebral-protective potential and it indicates that the consumption of waterleaf enhances brain  and it protects the brain
tissues.

Waterleaf is also a good remedy for insomnia- a
sleeping disorder.

Waterleaf contains more proteins than cashew nuts, more pectin (a food fiber that helps digestion) than apples, and also have high level of vitamin B, essential amino acids,
omega3-fatty acids, resins, iron, calcium,
copper, lead, manganese and zinc. It is also a rich source of carotenoids, vitamin C, A,
thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, alpha and beta
tocopherols.

The pounded waterleaf is applied to soothe
inflammations. An infusion of the leaves is taken as a diuretic. For prostate enlargement,
the roots are boiled. The dosage is half a glass twice daily.

Waterleaf is good and safe for pregnant women and growing children, as
it boosts their blood levels. Eating waterleaf
regularly as soup helps to regulate hypertension and diabetes.

Water leaf is also very beneficial when taken as vegetable, dried herbs and infusion.

However, juicing is the way to go if you want
the best out of waterleaf.

What is juicing?
Juicing is a process whereby you extract
vitamins, minerals and liquids from fruits and
vegetables.

To juice waterleaf, simply chop both stem and leaves, into pieces, in the same way as you do if you want to cook it. Then put two or three handfuls in the blender and add one cup of water. Blend in same way as you blend your tomato or fruit. Sieve out the chaff and you will be left with a dark green liquid, packed with vitamins and minerals.

Ensure you drink and finish the whole juice
within 10 minutes.

Do you feel tired and weak every time?
Are you battling with diabetes, hypertension
and arthritis?
Are you prone to frequent bouts of malaria?
Have you been diagnosed with cancer or you want to prevent it?
You want a glowing and youthful skin?
I strongly recommend you take water leaf juice twice a week. A trial will convince

In addition, waterleaf is one of the best medicine against MEASLES in children. Pound a handful and add warm water. Strain and use as  enema (pump) every morning for about a week.

2018/2019 CANDIDATES : 10 SECRETS YOU SHOULD KNOW AS A NEW STUDENT IN THE UNIVERSITY

1.Your first year (100level) in school is the most
important period of your stay. Hence, take caution
in selecting your friends and cliques. These friends
will either make you or mare your life. 2. Your first year (100 level) is the best period to
build a solid Grade Point (G.P) for yourself as a new
student. This is because some less complicated
courses (Introductory Courses) are
done during your first year. You are less
engaged in school sociopolitical activities (these activities can pose to be a great distraction). During
your first year, lecturers are more dedicated, patient
and punctual.
3. Participate in all group projects and
assignments. Oftentimes, test and examination
questions are picked from assignments given. 4. Rent an apartment that is close to your
campus; sometimes you may be totally out of cash
and trekking down to class may be the only option
available. Renting a house that is a stone throw
from school will save you unnecessary wastage of
money on transportation. 5. Ensure you equip yourself with all study
materials (textbooks, handout etc). Some lecturers
give extra marks if you buy their textbooks.
6. Endeavour to attend all lectures; be punctual and
attentive. Attendance record may be taken
unexpectedly; this fetches additional marks for the lucky few.
7. Get a reading partner or group in your
department. Your reading group should be
different from your casual friends, it should be of
mixed gender, members of the reading group
should take turn to teach and make the class as interactive as possible.
8. Map out your personal study time and habit , and
try to constantly stick with it. It is bad habit to
constantly adjust your reading time to suit your
personal activities rather your personal activities
should be adjusted to suit your study time.
9. Take all assignments, quiz and test seriously.
10. Study all past questions but do not rely on them
alone, read your textbooks and notes

Diverse life

True Situation Analysis of Life.

After Secondary School..
All your classmates have gone in different directions in the world.

Some have completed universities and are now:
Doctors,
Engineers,
Teachers,
Pilots,
Lawyers,
Administrators, etc.

Some are married,
Some have given birth,
Some are still searching and waiting on the Lord.
Some are dead, don't forget that too.

And others are on the sick bed,
Some are running their higher degrees: Masters, PHD, etc.

Some haven't even gained admission into the tertiary institution and may NEVER be able to.

Some own companies,
Some are now Directors and major  shareholders in global companies.

But how do you feel
When you meet your classmates, and it seems like he/she has accomplished their   dreams
And you're not yet close to yours?
So many thoughts run through your mind, right?
First, you think God has not been fair to you.

How about the ones you meet on the street wearing dirty cloths  and still struggling for survival ?
Do you get the same thoughts running through your mind?
I guess, NO.

Don't forget too that some are already dead.
Somehow it feels natural to have that  feeling of jealous for those mates who seem better off,  but it is really unnecessary.

There is no room for regrets,
We are all different and our paths to greatness are also not the same in distance.

Some might have arrived earlier before you and some  after you, but whatever level you find yourself in life,
Please keep trying to break limitations and move further.

Celebrate the success of others, its an indication that yours too shall surely come.

Your friend buys a car now, be happy with him/ her.
Remember when you'll buy yours,
theirs might not  be the latest again.
There's no permanent champion, but current champion.

Life is not about competition, do not be in a race with anyone; remember,  we may seem to be reading the same book but different chapters at different times.

Don't let the passion in you  kill the desire in you, keep it burning.

What you're  passing through today;
Write it down because one day the world would be ready to read it,  they'll become part of your success story.

There's no height you cannot attain, believe in yourself, define your goals,  recognize distractions and don't stop striving.

Spend time teaching yourself, because those things that mainly take people to the top are the things they devoted their time to develop.

Don't be intimidated by your friend's    success, the sky is wide enough for birds to fly without touching one another.

Value every little thing that God brings into our life, love God and obey Him.
For with God, all things are possible.

*Now to those who are on top Never forget to give a helping hand to those who are down.Because Life is full of uncertainties; the one you pull up today, may be the one to hold your hands and prevent you from falling tomorrow*

A piece of advice there, good for thought
